Questions & answers

Plain answers to what people most often ask about AI visibility. New here? Start with the overview.

What is AI visibility?

AI visibility is how a company shows up inside the answers AI assistants give — whether they recognize it, describe it accurately, compare it fairly, and recommend it when someone asks about its category. It is the AI-era counterpart to being found on a search engine, except the result is a written answer, not a list of links.

What are AEO and GEO, and how are they different from SEO?

AEO (Answer Engine Optimization) and GEO (Generative Engine Optimization) are the practice of being well represented in AI-generated answers. SEO optimizes for ranked links on a results page; AEO and GEO optimize for how an assistant describes and cites you inside a written answer. The skills overlap, but the target is different: a sentence in an answer, not a position in a list.

Why does it matter what AI assistants say about my company?

More and more buyers ask an assistant about a category before they visit any website. Whatever the assistant says becomes the buyer's first impression — formed with or without your input. If you are absent or described wrongly, you can lose the consideration before you knew it had started.

Can I actually influence what an AI says about my company?

Not by editing the model, but yes — by changing what it reads. Assistants draw on the open web: third-party mentions, the structured data on your site, and authoritative sources. Improve those inputs and the answers shift over time. You influence the evidence, not the model.

What is the ACE method?

ACE is the approach I write about here: Audit what AI currently says, Correct the inaccuracies and gaps, and Engineer the underlying signals — site structure, structured data, off-site presence — that feed the answers, then measure and monitor the change over time.

How do you measure AI visibility?

By asking real, buyer-style questions across several assistants and scoring the answers on a fixed set of dimensions — whether you are recognized, described accurately, compared, recommended, and cited — repeated over time so movement is visible. The aim is a transparent, repeatable read, not a black-box grade.

Isn't this just SEO with a new name?

It shares roots, but no. SEO is about ranking pages; AI visibility is about how a generated answer represents you, often with no click at all. Some SEO foundations help — authority, clear structure — but the measurement, the failure modes, and the fixes are genuinely different.

Which AI assistants matter?

The ones buyers actually use — today that includes ChatGPT, Perplexity, Google's AI answers, Gemini, Copilot, and Claude. They behave and cite differently, so they are worth looking at together rather than assuming one stands in for the rest.

What can I do today?

Ask a few assistants what they say about your company and your category, and write down what is wrong or missing. Make sure your site states plainly who you are and what you do, in real text, with valid structured data. And look at who the assistants cite in your space — that is where you need to earn a presence.

Does this work in languages other than English?

Yes. Assistants answer in many languages, and what they say about you can differ by language — different sources, different phrasing. If you serve a non-English market such as the DACH region, it is worth checking what assistants say in that language too, not only in English.

Is AI visibility different for my industry, or for B2B versus B2C?

The seven things measured stay the same; what changes is which questions buyers ask and which sources assistants trust in your category. A B2B software buyer and a local service buyer trigger very different answers, so the queries tested and the sources targeted are tailored — the method is constant, the inputs are specific.

This site doesn't sell anything — so what if I want help?

Right: this is written in the open, with no offer attached. If you want to act on it yourself, the overview and course walk through the method. If you would rather bring someone in, look for whoever measures transparently and shows their work — real queries, sources you can check, and honest limits, not a black-box score.
